Concept of the exhibition

The concept of the exhibition 1111KM-Translations is to create a virtual workroom, where the artists are offered the chance to get in touch with the world of experience of other artists in a foreign country, to extend their artistic practice. On the basis of their aquintance the artist make a translation to their own visual exspression. Besides the development of the individual artist, the project can contain an interesting cultural exchange. The simultaneous opening of the exhibition in the two cities, Groningen and Warsaw, is as regards content an integral subject of this project.　
In the contemporary digital culture it is very common to maintain contacts with people all over the world, whom we have never met in real life. In the exhibition 1111KM- Translations, people will be connected to eachother for the sake of this phenomenon. Two Dutch artists will be brought in contact with two Polish artists, after which they will have several moments to get to know each other, being aware of the fact that they will probably never meet in real life. The acquintance will be based on a gradual traject.
All this will result in individual artworks in which the artist gives an impression of the new gained contact, as a visual report.　
Procedure: The artists will be connected one to one and they will maintain contact intensively during several months . The artists will make a profile of each other and according to this personal impression, severall individuall artworks will arise, in their own chosen medium. The exhibition will serve as a physical report of the non-physical communication within this project.　
This unique collaboration will be supported by a simultaneous opening, in Groningen (hosted by WEP foundation) and in Warsaw (ASP- Academy of fine Arts) live connected by webcams. This will also be the finissage of the sateliteproject.

Konspekt wystawy

• Zamysłem wystawy 1111KM- Translations jest stworzenie wirtualnej pracowni (miejsca pracy) gdzie artyści mają szansę wejść w kontakt ze światem doświadczeń i doznań innych artystów
  z innych krajów, aby pogłębić własną praktykę artystyczną. Bazując na tej wzajemnej znajomości, artysta przetwarza to doświadczenie na swój sposób, za pomocą własnej formy ekspresji. Poza samym rozwojem poszczególnych artystów, projekt może przynieść ciekawą wymianę międzykulturową. Równoczesne otwarcie wystawy w dwóch miastach, Groningen i Warszawie, stanowi istotny aspekt tego projektu.
  We współczesnej cyfrowej kulturze globalnej, powszechne jest utrzymywanie kontaktów z ludźmi z całego świata, których nigdy nie mieliśmy okazji spotkać w realnym życiu. Na wystawie　1111KM- Translations, udzie będą ze sobą w kontakcie właśnie ze względu na ten fenomen. Dwoje holenderskich artystów nawiąże kontakt z dwójką artystów z Polski, następnie będzie im dana okazja aby się poznać, mając jednak w świadomości, że prawdopodobnie nigdy nie spotkają się "na żywo". Znajomość będzie oparta na stopniowym przenikaniu się światów dwóch osob.
  Wszystkie te działania zaowocują indywidualnymi pracami w których artyści przedstawią wrażenia z nowo uzyskanego kontaktu, w formie wizualnego raportu.
  Procedura: Artyści zostaną przypisani jeden do drugiego i będą utrzymywać intensywny kontakt przez kilka następnych miesięcy. Bazując na tym doświadczeniu stworzą profil swojego wirtualnego partnera; na podstawie ich własnych wrażeń powstanie kilka indywidualnych prac, w wybranych przez danego artystę środkach wyrazu. Wystawa posłuży za fizyczny zapis niematerialnej komunikacji będącej założeniem projektu.
  Zwieńczeniem tej wyjątkowej współpracy będzie równoczesne otwarcie wystawy, w Groningen (WEP foundation) i Warszawie (Instytut Awangardy), połączone porzez przekaz na żywo z kamer internetowych. Będzie to również zakończenie projektu "satelitowego".
  Metoda pracy: projekt współpracy i wymiany, oparty na wirtualnej przestrzeni pracy, podzielony pomiędzy dwa miasta w rożnych krajach.

Concept van de tentoonstelling

Het concept van de tentoonstelling 1111KM-Translations is het creëren van een virtuele werkplaats, waarbij kunstenaars de kans krijgen om kennis te nemen van de belevingswereld van andere kunstenaars in het buitenland, om zo hun artistieke praktijk uit te breiden. Aan de hand van hun kennismaking maken de kunstenaars een vertaalslag naar hun eigen visuele expressie. Naast een ontwikkeling van de individuele kunstenaar, zou het project ook een interessante culturele uitwisseling kunnen behelzen.
De gelijktijdige opening van de tentoonstelling in de twee steden, Groningen en Warschau, is inhoudelijk een integraal onderwerp van dit project.
In de hedendaagse digitale cultuur is het heel normaal geworden om contacten te onderhouden met mensen die we in het echte leven nooit hebben ontmoet. In de tentoonstelling 1111KM-Translations worden contacten gecreëerd, omwille van het bestaan van dit fenomeen. Twee Nederlandse kunstenaars worden door de organisatoren van dit project, in contact gebracht met twee Poolse kunstenaars. Vervolgens zullen zij enkele momenten hebben waarop ze kennis maken, in de wetenschap dat ze elkaar waarschijnlijk nooit werkelijk zullen tegenkomen. De kennismaking zal gebaseerd zijn op een stapsgewijs traject.Dit alles zal resulteren in individuele kunstwerken waarin de kunstenaar een indruk geeft van het nieuw opgedane contact, in de vorm van een visueel verslag.　
Procedure: de kunstenaars worden één op één aan elkaar gekoppeld en ze houden gedurende een aantal maanden intensief contact met elkaar. Het is aan de kunstenaars om een profielschets van elkaar te maken en aan de hand van deze persoonlijke indruk, individueel een aantal kunstwerken te maken, in een medium naar keuze. De tentoonstelling zal dienen als een fysiek verslag van de niet-fysieke communicatie binnen dit project.　 　
Deze unieke samenwerking wordt begeleid door een gelijktijdige opening in Groningen (Stichting WEP) en Warschau (ASP- Academie voor Schone Kunsten) , met live webcamverbinding, ter afsluiting van dit satelliet project. Dit zal tevens de finissage van het satellietproject zijn.
